Brian, Debbie and Jessica left around 6:30 this morning to catch a 9am flight. It was a fun time. Although we didn't even scratch the surface of all the things the kids WANTED to do with them (that would have taken 6 weeks), we did have a good time. Here are a few highlights.
1. Tuesday we spent the day at the NC Museum of Life and Science. It was hot but we had fun. Brock's post below this one gives a few more details.
2. Wednesday morning we went to see The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. It wasn't what the kids were expecting. I would have enjoyed it if my kids hadn't been there to talk to me the whole time! :) Brian, Debbie and Jessica left at lunchtime to head to the beach.
3. After a phone call from Debbie Thursday morning saying it was sunny and no rain in sight, we threw clothes into a suitcase and drove to Wrightsville Beach to play in the sand with them. After an afternoon of beach and swimming pools, we changed clothes and went to eat pizza. I took the kids into Wilmington to a hotel to spend the night. They were so excited to be in a hotel (even if it was a small one) and it had a pool! They were exhausted and begging to go go sleep.
4. We swam at our hotel Friday morning then cleaned up before checkout time. We had the pool to ourselves so it was a nice morning of swimming, and the water was warmer than I had expected it to be. After lunch at Cracker Barrel we made it home just before Brian, Debbie and Jessica. The kids had fun playing dress-up and Crazy 8's.
5. Saturday we spent the day at Silver Lake Water Park in Raleigh. It was a fun day of swimming, bumper boats, paddle boats and water slides. After dinner at Olive Garden, we all came home exhausted again. It was time to clean up, pack up and say all our good-byes. When I asked Jessica what her favorite thing to do had been, she said, "Covering my legs with sand at the beach with Hannah." It made that trip all worth it!
The much anticipated week went faster than a blink. The kids were missing Jessica today. I told them they needed to stay busy so they wouldn't think about it...so we washed the linens on all the beds and cleaned their rooms! :)
Hopefully, we'll start working into our school routine this week for the upcoming year. I told them tonight that our "vacation time" is coming to an end.......unless of course, someone calls us to swim or play or do something fun......and that would just be a story for another blog entry.....so we'll have to say "yes!"
(I'm not on the computer with photos so I'll try to add them later.)
