Sunday morning found us going to Beza International Church for morning worship. I attended this church two years ago so I was looking forward to the service.
This photo doesn't show the band and singers very well. The music portion of worship lasted over an hour. By the time the sermon began, all the seats were full. The music and sermon were just what I needed to "recharge" and be ready for the next week. If you ever find yourself in Addis, go to Beza Church!
What a blessing to worship with these kids! Robel, Sesay, Beza and Temeche, you all made my trip such a delight!
Bira, Temeche and me outside the church.
After church we went back to the Life Center to change clothes and have lunch. We then headed back to Entoto Mountain to hear more about what God is doing through Endihnew Hope up on the mountain.
Mesfin, the founder of Endihnew Hope, shared with us how earlier this summer, he felt like it was time to not just meet physical needs for the people of Entoto Mountain but to start teaching them God's Word. He and Lauren Putty held the first Bible study with a handful of teenage boys about three weeks before we were there. The young man in the photo with Mesfin is seeking the Lord and studying His Word. God is raising up leaders on Entoto Mountain! Pray for the salvation of the ones who are in the Bible study.
The view looking back from the walk to the land
Endihnew Hope was given some land - FREE - by the government to build a medical clinic and building for the feeding program. I felt like I was on holy ground as we stood around this stone the government put on the land. What started as one young man following the Lord's leading to feed children is now going to be a place for the people of Entoto Mountain to receive medical care and for their children to be fed.
Why is the medical clinic so important? There are no medical facilities on Entoto Mountain. The people must go into Addis Ababa for medical care. However, most of them cannot afford the trip to Addis, much less the cost of the treatment(s). Just this summer Ordinary Hero has taken two children into Addis for medical care - one for a severe burn, and one for a foot swollen twice as big as normal and not healing. So the need for a medical clinic is huge! Endihnew Hope needs $20,000 USD to build the clinic. They have received half of that amount. If you would like to donate to building the clinic, contact Ordinary Hero and specify what you want to support.
We circled the monument and thanked God for His provision of this land to serve the people of Entoto Mountain. We also prayed for Him to provide the $100,000 needed to complete all the buildings on this property.
Although we had worshiped in a church just a few hours earlier, I left this mountain side knowing that I had seen God's provision. I also left excited to return and see what is standing on that property the next time I'm in Ethiopia!!
A view of the mountain side
Two boys who walked with me all the way to the property and all the way back to the van. They could sing the scale "Do Re Mi". Such sweet boys!
Kids would line up wanting their photo made with us so they could see it. This little boy attached to Temeche and wanted to hold his hand while walking.
The grass is so green on the mountain side.
We stayed a bit by the vans talking to the kids and taking photos for them to see.
The sign showing the location of Endihnew Hope's land on Entoto Mountain. It thrilled me to see this!
Once we left the mountain again, we went back to the Life Center to change clean up then we headed to YOD Abyssinia, a restaurant that features authentic Ethiopian food and entertainment.
Part of our team enjoying food and friends.
Beza kept us laughing!
Emily wanted proof that she tried the injera. And yes, she actually ate it.
Ethiopians are quite skilled eating injera. "It's messy but good", they tell me.
Like I said, Beza kept us laughing!
Some entertainment...
Beza, Kylee and Hannah
I cannot describe how this woman swung her head around and around and around. She has a very flexible neck!
This group of high school and college students was a joy the entire week. Their passion for life is contagious!
Some more entertainment...
Our airline of choice for our trip to Ethiopia...Ethiopian Airlines. :) I'm thankful for my relationship with this airline and serving so many churches and organizations who travel to Ethiopia year after year.
And some more entertainment...
This day was a bit unusual with church and dinner, but it was one of my favorite because of seeing what is happening on Entoto Mountain. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Endihnew Hope.
